Which devices are in scope?
List laptops, monitors, docks, tablets, adapters or other equipment separately. Their available flat areas and service access points are different, so one size may not fit the whole deployment.
Laptop and IT tags need a low-profile fit that avoids vents, ports, hinges and service covers. Choose the material and adhesive after deciding how the device will be scanned, serviced and retired.
How to narrow the range
Avoid vents, ports, screws, hinges and service covers.
Choose a low-profile, metal-face or tamper-evident option.
Match the code to scanners, phones and the asset register.

IT and laptop application guide
Start with the device surface and the smallest code that the support team can scan reliably. Then decide whether the tag should be removable, permanent or tamper-evident.
List laptops, monitors, docks, tablets, adapters or other equipment separately. Their available flat areas and service access points are different, so one size may not fit the whole deployment.
Keep the tag clear of vents, ports, hinges, screws, regulatory labels and removable covers. Check the location with the device open, docked and connected.
Polyester keeps the profile low on clean indoor devices. Anodized aluminum gives a metal face. Tamper-evident vinyl can show an attempted removal, but it does not prevent theft and still needs a surface test.
Use a barcode when the service desk already has scanners. Use a QR code when staff need phone access to an asset or support record. Keep a visible serial number for manual lookup.
The data determines the minimum code size. Long URLs, dense barcodes and extra text need more area. Shorten the QR destination or reduce the visible copy before shrinking the code.
Choose based on the device ownership and replacement process. Test painted metal, coated plastic and sensitive finishes because residue or finish change depends on the exact adhesive and surface.
Provide one row per device with the asset ID, barcode or QR value and visible text in separate columns. Preserve leading zeros and flag duplicate IDs before proof approval.
Send the device types, planned tag location, size limit, quantity, material preference, code format, data file and photos of any textured or curved surface.
Use these as RFQ inputs. The approved Product and quote control the final specification.
